Template Builder Overview

Understand the Template Builder workspace: template identity, theme, formatting toolbar, canvas, dynamic elements, and real-time preview.

Name a Template

This is where you name your template.

Choose a Template Theme

You can change the builder theme if desired.

Use the Formatting Toolbar

The toolbar allows styles to be customized.

This is where template content is put together, ranging from static text to dynamic elements.

Use Data Sources, Fields, Data Tables, and Snippets to make templates dynamic with Salesforce data and reusable logic.

Preview a Template

This shows a real-time preview of the template, showing a PDF that updates as changes are made.

Formatting & Styles

Choose a Font

A few default fonts are listed, but the list can be extended with standard or custom fonts if desired.

Change Font Size

Select the desired text size.

Bold, Italicize, Underline, or Strike Text

Once clicked, the text is bolded.

Change Text Color

Color can be selected either by dragging the slider or pasting a hexadecimal value.

Insert a Fixed Table

Drag your cursor to select the desired table dimensions. This example features a 3 column, 3 row table.

Insert an Image

Inserting an image involves a few key settings.

Insert a Hyperlink

Specify the desired image URL and then insert the link.

Indent Content

After the button is clicked, the content is indented further.

Align Content

After the button is clicked, the content is left-aligned.

Page Settings

The page configuration can be updated to change page size, margins, and more.

Document Settings

Click here to change settings about how the document saves and which test record to use.

Record Data

Record Data Fields Overview

Use Record Data fields to merge values from primary, additional, and related Salesforce records.

Choose a Record Data Source

The record data source always shows the Primary Data Source, but also shows Additional Data Sources if configured. This provides flexibility to retrieve data from many records when needed.

Select and Insert a Salesforce Field

Once a field is selected, click Insert Field to add it to the template canvas.

Preview Record Data

And the real time preview contains sample data merged in, allowing you to make sure the correct field is selected.

Format a Dynamic Field

Styles can be conveniently apply bold, italics, or underline formatting to all instances of a given field.

Any field followed by a carat can be expanded. Click on the entry to show all of the other object's fields.

Data Tables

Data Tables Overview

Use Data Tables to retrieve multiple Salesforce records and render them as configurable repeating tables.

Create a Dynamic Data Table

Click the Object dropdown to select the type of record that will be summarized in the table.

Choose the Data Table Object

A list of objects is presented by default, but Gutenburg supports any object: standard or custom. Click the plus icon to add additional objects.

Add and Configure Columns

All of the fields from the source object are available for selection. Choose one to map it to the first column.

Format Data Table Values

Some fields, like numbers and dates, may need to be formatted in specific ways. To control the formatting, click the gear icon.

Use Advanced Column Formatting

If advanced formatting options are needed, Gutenburg permits a high level of customization.

Choose a Parent Source

The Parent Data Source setting offers built-in filtering. If you only want to see records related to your Primary or Additional Sources, select that option here.

Filter Data Table Records

Additional filters can be added to the data table if desired.

Order Data Table Records

The records in the list can also be ordered by a specified field. Simply choose which field should determine the order.

Insert and Preview a Data Table

Once the Data Table is configured, click Insert Data Table to add it to the template canvas.

Style Data Table Cells

Additional customizations can be made to a Data Table by right-clicking it in the canvas.

Snippets

Snippets Overview

Use Snippets to reuse blocks of content and conditionally include sections of a document.

Create a Snippet

Once the snippet is created, there are a couple of key fields: content and conditions. Click on either to expand the Snippet.

Add Content to a Snippet

Now, the content is added. In this case, the Snippet represents a short sentence. But it could also include images, data fields, and more if needed.

Insert a Snippet

Click Insert to place the Snippet into the template.

Reuse a Snippet Multiple Times

The Snippet is now inserted into the template canvas. The content gets truncated to make the template easier to read.

Add Conditions to a Snippet

A Snippet can also have conditions applied, making the inclusion of the content rule-driven.

Preview Conditional Snippets

Because this test record satisfies the criteria, the Snippet contents are included in the preview.
