Gutenburg access has two parts: a managed-package license and a Gutenburg permission set. Assign the license first, then choose the permission set based on whether the person needs to build templates or only generate PDFs.

Assign the Gutenburg package license

  1. In Salesforce, open Setup.
  2. Go to Installed Packages.
  3. Find Gutenburg and select Manage Licenses.
  4. Add the user or users who need access to Gutenburg.

A Gutenburg license is required for named users who generate PDFs or create or edit templates.

Assign a Gutenburg permission set

After the package license is assigned:

  1. In Setup, open Permission Sets.
  2. Assign one of the packaged Gutenburg permission sets:
    • Gutenburg Admin — for users who create or edit templates in addition to generating PDFs.
    • Gutenburg User — for users who generate PDFs but do not need to maintain templates.

Choose the appropriate access level

Use Gutenburg Admin for template authors and administrators. Use Gutenburg User for end users whose role is limited to document generation.

The package license and permission set serve different purposes. The license gives the user access to the managed package; the permission set grants the appropriate Gutenburg capabilities inside Salesforce.

Agentforce execution

When a Gutenburg Agentforce action runs as a Salesforce user, that running user also needs a Gutenburg license and baseline Gutenburg permissions.
